The Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination and Head of the Central Results Delivery Coordination, (CRDCU) on Thursday joined the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, at a two-day retreat organised for the seven Ministers newly appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Recall that the President had on October 24 appointed seven new ministers into his cabinet following a shakeup in which five members of the cabinet were discharged. The new Ministers who all joined the session organised by the SGF’s office include Idi Maiha (Minister of Livestock Development); Yusuf Ata (Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development); Dr Suwaiba Ahmad (Minister of State, Education); and Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu (Minister of State, Foreign Affairs). Dr Jumoke Oduwole (Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment), Dr Nentawe Yilwatda (Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction), and Muhammadu Dingyadi (Minister of Labour and Employment)
Bala Usman said the retreat was designed to provide the Ministers. The with critical knowledge on the workings of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. She explained that the programme will introduce the new appointees to the eight priorities of the President Tinubu administration and ministerial deliverables. It will also expose them to important subjects like financial regulations, procurement processes, and the Federal Government's budget process, integrity in government, citizens engagement, confidentiality, security awareness, and the importance of maintaining discretion with sensitive information as well as effective strategies for managing relationships within the Civil Service, especially between Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and CEOs of Parastatals to create a seamless working environment.
At the end of the two- day programme, the Special Adviser said that Ministers will be expected to sign the Performance Bond which contains the High Impact Deliverables, Indicators and performance metrics currently being implemented in their respective Ministries. She therefore advised the Ministers to make optimal use of the opportunity that the programme presented.
Dignitaries and resources persons at the programme, which was also witnessed by Senator Akume, included former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, who spoke on roles and responsibilities of Ministers and management of Federal Executive Council . Financial regulations and fiscal management processes and procedures delivered by Accountant General of the Federation Mrs Oluwatoyin Madein as well as Chairman of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ola Olukoyede who delivered a lecture titled: Cultivating a culture of integrity: Building a corruption free public service.
