The Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination & Head of the Central Delivery Coordination Unit recently organized a one-day workshop aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the federal government’s delivery mechanisms. Held at the Wells Carton Hotel, Asokoro, Abuja, the workshop brought together several participants, including Directors (Planning, Research, and Statistics), Technical Aides, Delivery Desk Officers, and Delivery Managers from the Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU).

The primary focus of the workshop was to critically review the Performance Management System, an essential tool used to track and measure the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in delivering on government priorities. The participants were guided through a detailed assessment of current challenges faced by delivery officers, such as data collection bottlenecks, inter-agency coordination hurdles, and reporting inefficiencies.

In her opening remarks, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, highlighted the importance of the Performance Management System in driving accountability and transparency across government projects and initiatives. She stressed the need for greater collaboration among MDAs to improve service delivery and called on participants to propose innovative solutions for addressing the existing challenges.

A key aspect of the discussions centered on strengthening the role of the FGN Delivery Unit by introducing more effective monitoring frameworks, enhancing the capacity of delivery officers, and adopting new digital tools to improve reporting accuracy. Participants also engaged in breakout sessions, where they exchanged experiences, shared best practices, and developed actionable recommendations for improving delivery outcomes across the board.

The workshop concluded with a commitment from all attendees, including the PRS Directors from MDAs and Delivery Desk Officers, to work closely with the FGN Delivery Unit to ensure that government priorities are met within stipulated timelines and that the overall impact on citizens’ lives remains at the core of their efforts.
